Today's Devotional brought to you by Prayer Warrior Michelle Simpson

The Greatest of These is Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-13

New King James Version (NKJV)
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there aretongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Love... we use it so often today! I love this job! I love ice cream! I love popcorn! I love chocolate! I love hiking! I love reading! I love chocolate! I love God! I love you!

In the Hebrew and Greek language there are several different words to describe different kinds of love. Godly love, brotherly love, love for an object, love between a man and a woman. In the English language we use the same word. We use that word so often that sometimes its meaning becomes obscure. When you tell someone you love them what exactly are you telling them? Do you mean you love them like your favorite object or does it mean you are committed to them?

When God said He loved us He meant we were His prized possession. Nothing was more precious to Him than we are and no relationship more important than our relationship with Him. He was and still is to do anything to demonstrate His love for us. He sent His Only Begotten Son to pay a debt He did not owe and our debt that we could not pay. He demonstrated His love for us in this way, while we were yet still sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8)!

Today write a love letter to God. In it express exactly why you love Him and the commitment you make to Him because of your love for Him. Then write a letter to someone you love expressing what your love for them means. Perhaps it means that you will be willing to forgive them anytime and for any reason. Perhaps it means you will remember to be patient and compassionate with them. maybe it means you will commit to asking forgiveness from them whenever you wrong them. Pray, ask God to show you what love means and then demonstrate it to those around you and watch what God does! You will be amazed!
