Radio Host and Cryo Team member
Hi, my name is Stephanie. As a contributor to the SCwSG Cryoglobulinemia Vasculitis and Communication's team, I wanted to give you a glimpse into my life. I’m the oldest of three and grew up on a hobby farm near Olathe, Kansas. We keep busy at our place with horses, chickens, gardens, acreage conquering and more. I am blessed to have wonderful parents and two younger brothers whom I count as friends and fellow believers in Christ.
I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 10 years old, so I understand what it means to live with a chronic disease that affects daily life. It’s not always easy; I have my days of discouragement, frustration, and sometimes fears knowing the possible future complications. However, having diabetes has given me the advantage of connecting on a deeper level with others who are going through personal or medical trials. Diabetes has also been a catalyst for spiritual growth and character development as I learn to rely on God and look forward to the promise of future healing in heaven.
I was homeschooled starting in fourth grade and also took some outside classes at our local school district, then concurrently enrolled at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in my senior year. After receiving my Associates of Arts at JCCC, I then transferred to College of the Ozarks (a work-study college) to complete my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree with a journalism minor.
I currently work as a nurse at Children's Mercy South ER in Overland Park, KS, and absolutely LOVE it! God truly provided my dream job of working with children at the hospital I've always admired. Although it was a tough position to get, the lessons of waiting on God and persevering in prayer were invaluable. It is a joy to have opportunities to impact many of the children and families that come through our doors during their time of need. Although it can be emotionally, physically, and spiritually draining at times, God is faithful to supply my every need. I have been learning that as long as I fill up on Him, my resources will never be depleted.
Outside of work, I am involved in my local church and two weekly Bible studies. I love to read, explore the great outdoors, play recreational sports, scrapbook, try new recipes, network, and spend time hanging out and laughing with friends and family. Someday I hope to be a wife and mother, but for now I'm thoroughly enjoying this season of life. One of my favorite verses is “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for GOD, our LORD, is an everlasting Rock.” Isaiah 26:3-4.
I pray this small involvement with the Cryo Vasculitis team will help me better understand the issues my Aunt Rochelle (Ray) faces with her unique medical challenges. She has been a good example of having a positive attitude in the face of trials and not letting her disease dominate her life.
